Ireland 2002 - a Report of the travel
|
Dublin Finally, after the travel we arrived in Dublin. The 2 floors bus represented for us the first very impact with the Dublin city. Dublin is full of colours, small ideas to be a big city and beer. There is also a river, but it is not a sign of melancholia. In the city centre there is a frenetic rhythm and the music is in every places. Maybe Dublin is a egocentric city, feel like a little London, but the Irish culture is a very big show. When you arrive here, you are waiting for small and coloured houses, pubs, music and all the typical things that really exist. |
The youth hostel "BARNACLES" at TEMPLE BAR was our strategic base for visit the city.A very interesting hostel where it is possible meet interesting (even if crazy) people.
Big greetings to "Tomaz", maybe the Germany boy that was coming from Rumania; he was a little ghost for us appearing and disappearing in different places. We will remember him.Big greetings to "Schumakkker" (only this world can help him to speck with people) Big greetings to the french girl supporting us one night of august. Just a memory to the small official breakfast (not too small) and to the background night noise coming from Temple Bar street... |
Free moments in DublinThe Liffey Ha'Penny bridge is a special place to taken a photo with the pubs in background. To taken thin photo we stopped the pedestrian traffic... The Joyce's statue represents an attraction of strange people, drunken people and tourists. Sorry...I forget to include also italian parallel people like me.... The last photo shows what really you can do in Dublin... |
The Kilmainham Goal (1792) Images form the visit at the ex jail in Dublin. It was used for the scenes of the movie "In the name of Father" |
The ex U2's studios Now, here it is a different business.... ...there is a different business... |
Connemara I remember the strange tour with the "O'Neachtain" tour bus through many stops in beautiful places. Here the nature is a thrilling base for a movie where enjoy with beer, irish soups, brown bread and irish girls... Even if the rain was always present, I appreciated the atmosphere and the irish girls (nature...) The photos shows an example of Irish cottage and very strange animal in the famous Connemara. |
Galway is beautiful. A small city (the population is about 50,000) with a big heart and with girls with big airbags It is a modern city, based on tourism and an interesting history. All the pubs have live music and in the streets there is a always same interesting strange artists. I think that Galway has a magic atmosphere that is impossible to forget easily. Here we found the morning relax and the frenetic crazy dangerous rhythm of the night. The 1-th photo from the left shows the young hostel at Quay Street. We called Quay Street as "via del Torrione" as the 2-nd football team of Bitonto (village very closed to Bari) Quay Street is very nice and here you can find the better pubs and fish&chips of the city. The 2-nd photo shows the vivacity. The 3-th photo from the left shows the "Cuba" disco where we enjoy the night. Here you can found the really images of Ireland between very drunken people (too much) and new modern music influences. You can find the "Cuba" disco at Eyre square. We called it "Piazza della Frisola" (Frisola means frying pan) As in Dublin, the young hostel has been the perfect meeting point. Big greetings to "Mariano", the american big fat boy with the Guiness's towel and the compass. We will remember forever him. Basically, for me Galway means also the first irish breakfast (bacon, egg, bean, toast, marmalade, butter, tea, coffee, milk and cakes...) |
Images taken from the Cliffs of Moher. I think that there is not a way to describes this place... On the left, there are Vezio and me. (Sergio taken the photo) [For additional photo of the cliffs see the Photo Gallery section. Go] |
An image of the dolmen. In Italy we have the same. In Holland they have the same. Probably, we coming from a big dolmen.... |
The Donegal city...sorry the village of Donegal has a square with 4 street starting from it. There are some interesting pubs, but the character of this place is the quite. Here, you can relax. The international young hostel (the first 2 photos from the left) is like the Simpson house. The walls are coulored by pink, viola and fuchsia. The atmosphere is very enjoyable with the "Kovovara" boss and her partner. |
We stay here only 1 day for a complete relax. The site is very small... there is nothing to do! The young hostel was very dirty, but I remember it as the "hostel of nobody" and the 2nd photo is the first ciak... |
It is very complicated describe Derry or Londonderry. It is the slash city. Here there are strong signs of the problems in Eire and North of Ireland. Especially here, in this part of North of Ireland very closed to the Eire's border. I prefer remember Derry as a good stage of the travel. An important experience full of emotion and anecdotes. Here we meet Kristian, a boy of Como, Italy (See the photo) and walking very much discovering the city. The pubs are enjoyable as in Eire. The people are all beer and music. I remember a night when, during a live concert in a pub, my requested song was played as "we sing a especially song for italian people...Cocaine..." and then the notes of the Eric Clapton's song... [For additional photo of Derry/Londonderry see the Photo Gallery section. Go] |
Simply a great place. Perhaps too more tourism...but it is the price to pay! [For additional photo of Derry/Londonderry see the Photo Gallery section. Go] |
It is the city of the entertainment of the North of Ireland. bewitched by the sea, it is a nice and a little crazy city. It seems to stay in another country... . |
The Northern point of Ireland. The first photo shows the Northern pub of Ireland. Here we meet 2 crazy Irish boys and after some pints of Guiness we play a strange football match...Italy vs Eire... 2-0. Malin Head is a wonderful site where the nature is the first actor and the tourism is not still present. [For additional photo of Malin Head see the Photo Gallery section. Go] |
We stay in Belfast only 4 hours but we will not forget it. Belfast is the city when progress, problems and traditions go ahead in a unique way. I am not able to describe (not only in english language) Belfast. Maybe Belfast is the city when progress, problems and traditions go ahead in a unique way. Maybe Belfast is only a city where catholic and protestant districts are very closed one to the other. Maybe Belfast is what we can not see [For additional photo of Belfast see the Photo Gallery section. Go] The second photo represents the firm of Trequattordici in a Belfast's wall... |
